Batman Arhkam Origins has officially been announced for all current generation platforms, as well as confirmed to be coming from Warner Brothers Montreal opposed to the series original creator Rocksteady Studios. It’s not entirely clear why another studio is at the helm, but we suspect it may be because Rocksteady is busy working on a secret “next-generation” project. However, this new studio does appear reasonably competent.
It’s been made clear by WB Montreal that this upcoming game is not about the origins or Batman, and is instead focused some of the early relationships he formed with a few of the series well known villains. It has been confirmed the game will take place on Christmas Eve, and revolve around a series of events that involve the Black Mask and eight of the worlds deadliest Assassins that are out to kill The Bat once and for all.
In addition to the main game, it has also been confirmed that a handheld title called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be released for 3DS & Vita platforms on the same day. This portable installment is being headed by Armature Studios and is said to be a 2.5D Metroidvania style adventure.
Both games are expected to ship October 25th, 2013. Check back soon for the inevitable announce trailer!
