If you had been following the PS4 announcement earlier this year, then no doubt Deep Down would have caught your eye. Running on Capcom’s latest game engine, Panta Rhei, it quickly had fans and critics alike trying to determine whether the footage was actually in-engine or just reminiscent of the infamous Killzone 2 trailer.
It was definitely a hot topic, with many websites examining the footage over and over, but we have since come to believe that the gameplay footage was in-fact captured from the game engine and not pre-rendered. It’s arguable that this was most likely the first PS4 title that showed us the potential of the next-generation, and surely this was reason enough for fans to be excited. However, E3 had come and gone, along the launch of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and yet we had still not heard anything further about this game, or at least that was until today.
It’s only a short teaser trailer, but putting the brief gameplay footage aside it actually tells us a lot about the game. The first thing you will notice is that the title is being developed by Capcom Online Games. Does this mean this could potentially be an MMO, or is this simply just an expansion on the ideas explored in Dragon’s Dogma? It’s has since been spotted that the official genre is “Reading RPG”, whatever that means, as well as confirmation that the game does require a network connection. At the moment this doesn’t mean anything, and I’m not convinced it’s an MMO, however, the second and more surprising part of the trailer is the fact that only the PS4 logo was shown, suggesting this game will be exclusive to the platform. We can only speculate at this point, but this trailer surely provides a lot more questions than it does answers, with more information to be revealed at TGS this September.
